Five Speech Therapy Goals - One Fun Activity!

fun speech therapy ideas using toys

Finding therapy activities that are fun, engaging, and target multiple goals at the same time is always important but even more so when working with students that have special needs. Recently, I was working with a young client who has a global developmental delay and multiple speech and language therapy goals. She LOVES playing, so having manipulatives on hand in my therapy sessions are essential to keep her engaged! So out came some cute rubber sea animals, some plastic foo and this ""Fox in the Box Activity Set".

Here are 5 goals that were targeted in my therapy session with this one activity.

1. Use of articles "a" and "the":

  • Clinician: "What does the turtle want to eat?"
  • Client Answer Goal: "A pineapple."

2. Vocabulary:

  • Water Animals (turtle, alligator, frog...)
  • Food (corn, pineapple, strawberry..)
3. Spatial Concepts:

  • The frog is on the hat.
  • The alligator is next to the tree.

  4. Following Simple Directives:
  • Put the turtle next to the hat.
  • Show me the turtle.
5. Answering Wh-Questions:
  • Who's hungry?
  • What does the turtle want to eat?
  • Where is the octopus?

Thank you so much for stopping by! I do hope that some of these ideas were helpful
